Solving Equations - Primer

  • Definitions:
q A Term is a constant or the product of a constant and one or more variables.
   
q If a term contains a variable it is called a variable term.
   
q A number multiplied by the variable is called a coefficient.
   
q A term with no variable is called a constant term.
  
  • Equations can take 4 forms in this course.
      

    1.  x + a = b

     

    2. ax = b
         

    3. ax + b = c
     

    4. ax + b = cx + d
