Teaching English Language Learners: Certification Requirements

Florida Requirements for Teaching ESOL

According to the Florida Dept. of Education website, the following requirements must be met for a teaching endorsement in ESOL.

  1. A Bachelors or higher degree with certification in another subject, and
  2. Fifteen semester hours in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) to include credit in each of the other areas specified below:
  • Methods of teaching English to speakers of other languages (ESOL),
  • ESOL curriculum and materials development,
  • Cross cultural communication and understanding,
  • Applied linguistics, and
  • Testing and evaluation of ESOL.
