OpenAthens Troubleshooting Guide: Forbidden Error Message (Troubleshooting)

Steps

  1. In your OpenAthens Admin account, type the user's name into the account search keyword box.
  2. Locate the account in question using the different tabs (Personal, Administrator, Staff Login, Student Login)
  3. When viewing the account, verify that their is a value in the Aleph Borrower Status box (If it is blank, this explains the forbidden error message).
  4. Next, view the permissions tab, If the default permissions checkbox is unchecked, then check off Assign Permissions Manually checkbox.
  5. Save Changes, & then direct the user to try to access the databases again.
